ROSEBURG: Police stun fleeing suspect

A theft suspect was stunned with a Taser while trying to run from a Roseburg police officer who approached him just after midnight Sunday in a restaurant, police said. Police were seeking Michael Wayne Batson, a 36-year-old transient, in connection with a 2012 theft. Police say he is suspected of stealing medical equipment while a patient at Mercy Medical Center. Police say Cpl. Bobby Carpenter contacted Batson at the Purple Parrott, 177 Garden Valley Blvd. Batson provided a false name before trying to run away, police said. Batson ignored several orders to stop, so Carpenter discharged a projectile Taser cartridge. …
