Editorial: Keeping Douglas County residents warm the first step to tackling homelessness

When volunteers perform kind deeds for others with no expectation for reward, it seems ungrateful to say the efforts aren’t enough. So let us first say that we appreciate every person who donates time, money and good cheer to the two warming centers operated by Douglas County Housing and the Homeless Coalition. The Unity Church on Winchester Street in Roseburg opens its doors to those needing shelter on some of the coldest nights of the year. A meal is provided along with a place to sleep.
