The federal government will help Douglas County farmers markets be more visible this year by paying for a campaign to promote the Markets of the Umpqua. The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded NeighborWorks Umpqua a $100,000 grant for marketing and advertising five farmers markets. The markets are in Canyonville, Sutherlin, Lookingglass, and the Umpqua Valley Farmers Market and the Old Town Market in Roseburg. The markets were chosen based on their willingness to collect data about vendor sales, customer accounts and vendor counts, the program’s coordinator, Heather Barklow, said.
