AmeriCorps volunteers serve in Oakland middle school garden

OAKLAND — Gabby Pauling paused between tearing out weeds in the garden at Lincoln Middle School to enjoy the sun shining on her face. “It feels like heaven,” she said. “I like working outside in the garden. Any excuse to work outside in the garden I’m all for it. I like dirt.” A break in the cold winter weather Friday afternoon provided the perfect opportunity for Pauling, 22, and other AmeriCorps volunteers to prepare the school garden for spring planting.
