State Rep. Bruce Hanna: Time to retire some public pension benefits

WINCHESTER — Rep. Bruce Hanna said Wednesday he will push for reforms to the Public Employees Retirement System that could save the state millions of dollars a year. During a town hall meeting at Umpqua Community College, Hanna said the retirement program for government workers in Oregon has caused an unsustainable financial drain. Cities, counties, school districts, fire districts and other public employers will pay an additional 30 percent — a total of $900 million over the next two years — to keep PERS solvent, Hanna said.
