SUTHERLIN — Halfway though a five-year contract for fire protection and ambulance services, the city faces a choice: pursue a closer relationship with Douglas County Fire District No. 2 or re-establish its own fire department. Either way, Sutherlin residents are likely to pay more in the future for fire and ambulance calls. Citing the cost and a lack of volunteers, Sutherlin disbanded its fire department in 2010 and contracted with Fire District 2.
