Healthy Wednesday: Roseburg accounting firm tallies benefits of exercise

Every January, a new tax season begins and employees at Wicks Emmett in Roseburg pull out spreadsheets for some good, old-fashioned accounting. They’re compiling tax returns, too. But on the side, they’re tallying other numbers, tracking their diet and exercise. Twenty-three of the 26 people at Wicks Emmett are competing in teams in the accounting firm’s annual tax-time wellness challenge. Before starting the challenge three years ago, accountant Laura Lusa said they exercised less and ate more junk food during the high-stress tax season, between Jan. 1 and April 15.
