Five years since the project began, the U.S. Forest Service is moving ahead with a plan to restrict off-road riding in the Umpqua National Forest to designated routes. Forest Service officials this month are restarting efforts to complete an environmental assessment for the Umpqua National Forest travel management plan. The plan follows a 2005 Forest Service decree that all national forests determine which roads and trails should be closed to vehicles to prevent environmental damage.
