Glide teen wins state award for raising money for African wells

A Glide teenager who raised money to build wells in Niger has been named Oregon’s high school youth volunteer of 2013 by a national program that recognizes outstanding service by students. Caroline Brown, 18, received this week the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. She organized a walkathon in July at Glide High School, raising $5,600 for World Vision. The Christian humanitarian organization used the money to build two wells in the landlocked West African country.
