After eight years sniffing around for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, police dog Kilo apparently enjoyed his retirement ceremony Wednesday at the Douglas County Courthouse. The 11-year-old yellow Labrador retriever was presented a plaque, a canine-appropriate cake and a handshake from Sheriff John Hanlin. “He’s a pretty special dog,” Hanlin said. “He was always eager to work and very motivated.” The sheriff said his office hopes to add a patrol dog in the near future.
