Rising from the ashes: Fair Oaks Fire Department goes from zero to 20 volunteers

SUTHERLIN — Flat on its back six months ago, the Fair Oaks Fire Department is up and poised for action under the leadership of its youthful chief, R.C. Mock. “R.C. has done just an amazing job getting us up and running. We appreciate him more than he knows,” said fire district board member Mary Rosemeyer. The board hired Mock, 26, in August in the wake of a resident-driven shake-up that led to three board members quitting and climaxed with the resignation of former Chief Paul Yegge.
