An effort to boost success for mom-and-pop business owners and low-income farmers got a $25,000 boost last week from Wells Fargo Bank. Virginia Elandt, microenterprise program manager for NeighborWorks Umpqua, said the money will help pay for one-on-one counseling for businesses with five or fewer employees. “We have seen an increase in need in the community. We’re working with roughly 70 small-business clients at any time,” Elandt said. The microenterprise program has a budget of $240,000 and two employees, Elandt and Bob Hillis, a part-time business counselor who also works for the Small Business Development Center at Umpqua Community College. …
