Oregon senator defends holding off on federal forest hearing

Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden hasn’t scheduled a hearing on increasing federal timber harvests in Western Oregon because nobody has come up with legislation that could pass, a Wyden aide said Thursday. “The operative words are, ‘Something that will actually pass,’ ” Wyden spokesman Tom Towslee said. Wyden, the new chairman of the Senate Energy and Nature Resources Committee, has come under pressure from U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Springfield, to hold hearings on Oregon and California Railroad lands.
