Douglas County schools and nonprofits brace for federal cuts

Unless Congress and the White House soon agree on a deficit-reduction plan, automatic federal budget cuts set to take effect Friday could impact Douglas County education, health and social services. The across-the-board cuts would affect a variety of federal programs and agencies in Oregon, according to the White House. In Douglas County, funding could be cut for special education and early intervention programs in public schools, Head Start, the Women Infants and Children nutrition program and the Wolf Creek Job Corps.
