Former Lane County Commissioner Jerry Rust will be the keynote speaker for Umpqua Watersheds’ 17th annual banquet and silent auction March 9 at Umpqua Community College. Rust grew up on a 60-acre farm east of Roseburg and graduated in 1961 from Glide High School. As a boy, Rust raised lambs and tended an eight-acre plot of strawberries. After graduating from the University of Oregon in Eugene with a bachelor’s degree in political science, Rust joined the Peace Corps, helping people on India’s east coast to create gardens and become more self-sufficient.
