Troubled life in Roseburg doomed former chef Levi Jones

Levi Jones, whose body was pulled from the South Umpqua River in Roseburg last week, was a sensitive man who led a troubled life, his mother and ex-wife said Tuesday. Authorities have yet to rule, pending the results of toxicology tests, but his family told police Jones was suicidal. An autopsy found Jones drowned, and police said there were no signs of foul play. “We knew he’d gone back to the river,” said Jones’ mother, Cheryl Mendenhall of Missoula, Mont.
