One of Gary Wayman’s first acts when he became director of the Mercy Foundation in 1988 was raising funds to create DaVita Roseburg Mercy Dialysis. Three weeks ago, Wayman, now retired, began undergoing dialysis two days a week at the center on Edenbower Boulevard. Wayman, 70, was diagnosed with kidney failure four years ago. In 2011, he went on Oregon Health & Science University’s waiting list for a new kidney, but he may wait for years unless he finds a donor.
