South County man dies after being taken into custody

CANYONVILLE — A 26-year-old South County man died Sunday night from an apparent medical emergency after being taken into custody by Douglas County sheriff’s deputies. Walter Ray McKelvey, who authorities believe made a 911 call at 9:36 p.m. saying two men were harassing him at Ray’s Food Place, 151 Main St., became erratic and ran into traffic on Main Street before deputies restrained him and brought him back in handcuffs to their patrol car, said Sgt.
