SCOTTS VALLEY — The Oregon Department of Transportation is removing leaning trees and others with shallow roots that pose a danger of tipping over onto Interstate 5 in North County. The trees are on slopes next to I-5 and have roots that are not well anchored in the soil and could fall over in a storm, ODOT spokesman Jared Castle said. “These are trees identified as hazards or that could be hazards and are tall enough that they would cover both freeway lanes,” Castle said. “When there’s a good storm, these are the ones that come down.” Crews last week …
