Some numbers suggest Douglas County may be poised for an upswing in building, the county’s planning director, Keith Cubic, said this week. Cubic presented county commissioners Wednesday with 2012 statistics for his department. The planning department issued 5 percent fewer permits last year than in 2011 and handled 10 percent fewer matters requiring regulatory action. The office averaged 10 actions per day, compared with 20 per day in the early 2000s and peaking at 29 per day in 2007, right before the economy tanked.
