Two years, one month, 15 days. Dennis Young’s grandmother, Denise Barger, knows exactly how long it took for justice to catch up with Mark Vanderhoof. Vanderhoof was found guilty today of abusing 32-month-old Dennis to death on Jan. 25, 2011. Douglas County Circuit Judge Ronald Poole ruled Vanderhoof, 53, of Lookingglass guilty of two counts of murder by abuse. The crime requires proving “past episodes” of abuse. In this case, Vanderhoof’s past episodes were two prior convictions for victimizing children. Poole set Vanderhoof’s sentencing for April 22. He faces 25 years to life in prison.
