Roseburg School Board embraces levy proposal — again

A show of community support Wednesday persuaded the Roseburg School Board to pursue a tax levy in May, but board members cautioned a levy may not prevent the district from closing an elementary school. A group called FIRMGROUND for Kids — which stands for Fir Grove, Rose, Melrose, Green; Opportunities Utilizing New Directions — submitted a levy proposal to the board during a work session. The group’s name refers to the four elementary schools the board is considering closing next school year to make up for a budget shortfall and declining enrollment.
