Douglas County Commissioner Joe Laurance won’t seek re-election

Two-term Douglas County Commissioner Joe Laurance announced Friday afternoon that he will not seek a third term in office. The announcement came just a few hours after state Rep. Tim Freeman, R-Roseburg, said he will run for the seat now held by Laurance, whose term will expire at the end of 2014. “I will reach the retirement age of 65 at the end of my current term, when I plan to devote my considerable energy to family, fishing and motorcycling,” Laurance said.
