DeFazio: Cut military aid to Egypt to restore tuition benefits

Congress should redirect $500 million earmarked for military aid to Egypt to restore cuts to college financial aid for active-duty military personnel, U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio said Wednesday. The Army, Marines and Air Force have suspended tuition assistance because of across-the-board cuts known as sequestration. The Navy has not suspended its program. The cutbacks affect about 350 members of the Oregon Army National Guard. The U.S. Senate on Wednesday approved an amendment to a spending bill to restore funding for tuition assistance.
