A timber industry lawsuit filed Thursday seeks to reverse a federal designation of 9.6 million acres of forest land in Oregon, Washington and California as critical habitat to the threatened northern spotted owl. American Forest Resource Council, Carpenters Industrial Council and a group of timber companies and private landowners filed the suit in federal district court in Washington, D.C., against the Interior secretary and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service director.
