The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is investigating the death of Paul F. Coates, 73, who died of an apparent gunshot wound at his residence at 809 Soup Creek Road at Loon Lake, just east of Reedsport.

Douglas County sheriff’s deputies responded to the home at approximately 10:45 Thursday and found Coates dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for today.

The sheriff’s office says no further information will be released today.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team consists of members of the District Attorney’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Roseburg Police Department, Oregon State Police, and other local police agencies.
