The nephew of a Roseburg man killed Thursday in a head-on collision near Winston said this morning his uncle was an “A-1 professional” with a tender heart.
Retired small-business owner Denver David, 66, died at the scene of a crash that took place at about 3:45 p.m. on Oregon Highway 42 about four miles west of Winston. His family was notified of his death Thursday evening.
Oregon State Police said David was driving a 1996 Geo Tracker east when he crossed into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by Winston resident Teresa Anderson, 46. Anderson was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg with minor injuries.
Each driver was wearing a seat belt, according to state police. Both lanes of Highway 42 were closed for about an hour.
Family members said before retiring, David operated David’s Floor Covering in Douglas County for many years. The Arkansas native was a small child when his family moved to Glide. He lived the rest of his life in Douglas County.
David met his wife-to-be, Sharon, when she attended Douglas High School and he attended Glide High School. The couple would have celebrated their 47th anniversary in July. The Davids have four grown children — Kevin David of Creswell, Kelly Lusch of Roseburg, Kody David of Florida and Kyle David of Roseburg. A daughter, Miranda, died as an infant.
He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Denver David was active in the Church of God of Prophecy in Roseburg, where his nephew, Steven David, is the pastor. Steven David said people always asked him if he was related to Denver David. Many were former customers who relayed their satisfaction with his uncle’s high-quality work and professionalism, Steven David said.
“He was a servant to the people around him,” Steven David said.
