As I walk through Wal-Mart, aisles packed full and high of ‘Back to School’ supplies; I actually start to feel anxious.I remember as a child that feeling of sadness that my long summer days of outside play and no homework were coming to an end. It seems like seeing this all again brings back some of those childhood memories. Even though I love and appreciate the routine of school days for my boys, I am so not ready for back to school. I just love summer, the great weather, longer days and the opportunities to do things with my family that we don’t always have time to do throughout the year.
This summer has been a full and busy one for our family, so I want to make sure I grab each day and opportunity to enjoy my boys. I love the lazy mornings, the no rush breakfast, snuggling in pajamas, watching movies in bed and reading books.
The one thing I am reminded of though as we do start to prepare and get ready physically for our children to go back to school, is the importance of prayer. I know many of us moms, each year revisit our schooling choices for our children and prayerfully consider what is the best option for our family. I pray that as each of us shop for pencils and new shoes that we would also remember to trust God with our schooling choices and with our children. Especially for those mamas that are about ready to send their little ones off to preschool or kindergarten for the first time.
In my time of feeling sad and anxious about the school year being almost ready to start up again I came across this beautiful prayer that I wanted to share with you. I pray that it would encourage you and bless you too.
Our Heavenly Father,
In a season of life when parenting decisions seem to loom larger than life itself, we humbly ask for your guidance.
While the shoes still smell new and the pencils point crisply, our hearts sense the need for a stronger connection with your love and a deeper reliance on your grace.
Would you help us to remember that You know every thought we have as a parent? Would You remind us that the feeling of having our hearts walk around outside our bodies is one You are ever so familiar with? And would You provide the wisdom from above as we walk this new ground for a new school year?
We praise Your name for doing so.
In Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.
