Roseburg man hit crossing street remains in hospital

A Roseburg man who was hit Oct. 4 while crossing Northeast Stephens Street remains in a Springfield hospital but has been upgraded to serious condition.

Charles P. Earwood, 49, was struck by a pickup in the 2000 block. Earwood, who lives in the Mt. Nebo Trailer Park in the same block, was not in a crosswalk.

He was admitted to Sacred Heart Medical Center

Earwood was crossing the street about 2:35 p.m. when a southbound driver stopped, while another southbound driver in the adjoining lane continued and hit the man, police said.

He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg and then transferred to Sacred Heart at RiverBend in critical condition. He was upgraded to serious condition Oct. 16.
