Roseburg shelter to open for Christmas

A warming center for the homeless will be open tonight and Christmas night because early morning forecasts Monday suggested low temperatures would be around 30 degrees.

The Douglas County Housing and Homeless Coalition opens the center at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 820 W. Kenwood St., on nights when temperatures are projected to dip below 31.

Guests are provided with dinner and a warm place to sleep.

Coordinator Ian Smith encouraged volunteers to sign up for four-hour shifts, which he said may be harder to fill over the holidays.
