Club News: Botanical gardens in Silverton deserve a visit June 14

Field trip slated for Saturday

Sutherlin Valley Recreation will sponsor a Saturday field trip to the Oregon Garden in Silverton. The bus will depart from behind the Sutherlin Library and Senior Center at 8:30 a.m. and return at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The 80-acre botanical showplace has more than 20 specialty gardens and features. It’s handicapped accessible, with some wheelchairs available. Hop-on, hop-off trams run every 30 minutes. Preview the Garden online for a glimpse of what to expect.

There will be a stop-over visit at the Albany Historic Carousel and Museum. Visit with the staff and learn the history of the project, tour the Museum, and watch carousel figures being carved.

The entire cost of the trip is $15 per participant, which includes entry fees and transportation. The trip is geared towards adults, but children are welcome if attended by an adult. Attendees are encouraged to bring a pillow, their cameras and snacks. Purchase lunch at the Garden Restaurant or bring a sack lunch.

The trip is supported by funds from C. Giles Hunt Charitable Trust. Watch for other such activities planned throughout the year.
