Healthy (and Paleo) packed lunches your kids will love | Moms

Summer is coming to a screeching halt. Soon the streets will be filled with happy children and school buses.

After the school supplies are purchased and new clothes hung up, it's time to make a plan for school lunches.

Taking sub jobs at the school means I often have cafeteria duty. For a foodie like me it can be hard to watch what's being served to our children.

Every school has a salad bar and those are always filled with great choices.

The breakfasts and lunches are a little more difficult to navigate. Even though they have a few choices each day, I witness large amounts of food going in the trash from the trays.

When children eat lunches packed at home they seem to enjoy them more. It may be that food from home really is more appealing.

What's nice is you don't have to buy separate food for the kids either. You can all pack the same food for lunches!

Here are some of my favorites:

(I chose three Paleo articles because they all use whole foods and are free of common allergens.)

Of course you need great containers to pack them in. It's been a few decades since that one boy kicked my Little Kiddles lunchbox and broke my thermos.

There are much nicer ways to pack you lunch now.

Good nourishment makes a big difference for students in their learning process as well as good health. As parents we have a great opportunity to help our kids learn and enjoy school at the same time.
