URC presents literacy awards

The Umpqua Reading Council recently awarded seven Literacy Awards in Douglas County. A council member nominated each award winner from leaders who work with kids. Many support the teachers by being awarded grants to build libraries and book giveaways, help with the Battle of the Books, encourage a love of reading and promote literacy in the classroom or library.

The following were Umpqua Reading Council Literacy Award recipients: Ann Meixner, Aleta Sellars, Carol Sherwood, Judy Kulluson, Cheryl Anderson, Heather Bolin and Mara Brock. Each award winner was presented with a plaque and a rose to thank her for her leadership in literacy.
