AL members recognized
At the American Legion Department of Oregon’s recent convention, Adjutant Laurence (Larry) Hill of Earle B. Stewart Post 16 of Roseburg was elected to the second-highest office for the American Legion Department of Oregon, that of first vice-commander. In addition, Post 16’s Commander Courtney (Corky) Smith earned the prestigious award of Legionnaire of the Year, given for outstanding leadership and service.
Cmdr. Smith was also awarded Department of Oregon Recruiter of the Year for having recruited the most members in the department.
He has been presented with his second Gold Brigade Award for recruiting more than 50 new members and was recognized as the winner of the Department of Oregon Rehabilitation Award for assisting veterans and their families. Smith said, “I could not have earned these awards without the hard work and dedication of my fellow Legionnaires.” Anyone interested in learning more about the American Legion and its activities is encouraged to call.
