Kudos: Students and friendship gardens grow together in Roseburg

Friends grow in Roseburg

Nineteen middle school students from the Joseph Lane and Fremont Student Exchange programs with Kuki City, Japan, gave 3.5 hours from their busy schedules to clean, weed and beautify the Friendship Gardens located behind the Douglas County Library. The project helped prepare the gardens for viewing by the Japanese students our Roseburg exchange students would be hosting.

Jenny Young Seidemann organized the work group of middle school students and parents who later hosted 20 Japanese students and several teachers from Kuki City.

Nut and fruit bars and ice water were provided for the workers through the lunch hour. Students walked to Dairy Queen for a treat after their excellent and enthusiastic work.

A huge thank you to all the JoLane and Fremont exchange students and parents, as well as Jeanne and John Burpee for their diligence, humor and good work.

Garden chairperson
