UGMC hosts 43rd show
The Umpqua Gem and Mineral Club offers its Wonders of Obsidian show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 in Douglas Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
See displays by local club members, rock and jewelry dealers, and gold panning equipment. Shady Cove artist Barbara Jacobsen specializes in Intarsia, a form of mosaic completed with small pieces of sliced rock. On Sept. 8, she will demonstrate this intricate work and how it brings pieces together to form a miniature picture.
The show will also include food concessions, raffle prizes, a silent auction, and door prizes every half hour. There will be free rock hunts and painting for the children at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sept. 8 Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.
