Club News: Oregon2020 program Sept. 26 in Roseburg; surveys bird response to habitat changes

Bird surveys track change

The Umpqua Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a program on “Oregon 2020: A Benchmark Survey of Oregon’s Birds” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Douglas County Library, 409 N.E. Diamond Lake Blvd., Roseburg.

The program will be given by W. Douglas Robinson, Oregon State University professor and director of Oregon 2020. He has surveyed bird communities in the Neotropics and North America and will describe how birds respond to habitat change.

The Oregon 2020 project uses eBird to create a benchmark survey of Oregon’s birds. It includes bird surveys by professionally trained ornithologists and by local birders.

Admission is free. Attendees should use the free public parking lot across Fowler Street, east of the Douglas County Library.
