Kudos: Outpouring of aid for typhoon victims greatly appreciated

Thank you, Douglas County

The Douglas County Filipino American Association expresses heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming community support of our Filipino Dinner fundraiser for poor villages in the Philippines devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. With a far greater turnout than expected, we ran out of food early. Our deepest apologies and thanks to those who didn’t get a meal and donated anyway. Thanks also to the YMCA, to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Smith for use of their approved kitchen, and to the local media. The victims of Typhoon Haiyan will be forever grateful.

We raised $4,152 and checks are still coming. All the funds go to Catholic Relief Services, who are distributing tarpaulins, water purification tablets and household kits in northern Leyte. Some DCFAA members have relatives in these villages and get first-hand reports about the aid being used for basic needs. Thank you to all who contributed.
