Brittany Arnold

Age: 20-something

Family: Husband, Chris; daughters, Audrey and Evelyn

Occupation: Stay-at-home mom and wife, writer and editor for Douglas County Moms

About: From fashion shows, concerts, Smart phones, little black dresses, fine dining and everything else the city life offers to packaging hunted elk meat, shooting guns, casserole dishes, endless laundry and an SUV, join her on this journey from city shaker to green acres.

Brittany is the wife of a logging administrator and mother of two beautiful daughters. She dedicates herself to staying at home, but is also the Douglas County Moms editor, writes a monthly column for The News-Review, assists with the local Moms Matter group and is active at her church and in the community.

Jayne Gautreau

Age: 30-something

Family: Husband, Sabin; sons, Ethan, Micah and Zakiah

Occupation: Stay-at-home mom

About: Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Jayne has lived in Douglas County since 2007. She met her husband at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago when she came over to study as an exchange student in 1998. They married in Northern Ireland in December 2000, but have made their home in the United States ever since.

Jayne is a tea-drinking, chocolate-loving mama, which helps her to “keep calm and carry on.” Being a mom has brought some challenges her way, but it is also shaping her into the person she was created to be, as she learns and grows along the way.

Robbin A. Carollo

Age: 20-something

Family: Husband Dominic; daughters Ansley and Eddaline; twin baby boys

Occupation: Kid-corraller, reluctant housekeeper and sometimes blogger

About: Robbin is transplanted from Atlanta, Georgia, married to a native Oregonian who brought her to Roseburg to follow his career as an attorney. With two kids in two years and two more on the way, Robbin is just happy to know what’s going on most of the time. Her humor, friends and faith in God are what help her overcome the culture shock and sleep deprivation that have become the norms in her life. When she can find a minute, she blogs about her misadventures in the PNW and parenting on her blog, From Grits to Granola.

Marla Smart

Age: 40-something

Family: Husband, Jerry; two daughters and one son

Occupation: Part-time children’s pastor; third grade teacher; full-time wife and mom

About: A local pastor’s wife, Marla Smart stays busy with her family of five and her church. She is a children’s pastor at her church, mentor mom for Winston’s Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS), and a third grade teacher at UVCS, as well as mothering her three (now teenage) children and loving her amazing husband, Jerry.

Being a mom has challenged her since the very first day of her oldest daughter’s life. She lives by Michelangelo’s quote “Ancora Imparo,” or “I am still learning.” Check out her personal blog at

Jemelene Wilson

Age: 50-something

Occupation: Writer, Mom, Pastor's Wife

Family: Married with two daughters and one son-in-law

They moved to Oregon six months later and she followed him into full time ministry. She's the mother of two amazing daughters who challenge her daily in the best possible way. Her teenager was added through adoption and carries with her multiple medical and special needs. She would live in Disneyland if they would let her but until then she's happy to be part of this amazing community in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Overflowing with countless stories filled with hope, she is privileged to write here and on her own"_blank">

Michelle Hamlin

Age: 30-something

Family: Husband, Aaron and four wonderful daughters

Occupation: Domestic Engineer

About: Michelle is a homeschooling, songwriting, God-fearing lady. Aside from business planning, laughing and spraying poison oak with her husband, she dedicates much of her time homeschooling her four girls (and sometimes herself). Because life doesn't have a rash-wound-or-sting-free clause, she has developed a passion for natural remedies, tea drinking and salve making.

Crafts, music and fascinating random facts are crammed in there somewhere. As an almost natural by-product and with a strong liking for words fitly spoken, Michelle has been writing with honesty on her Christian life as a woman, wife and mom on her blog, You can find much of her natural remedies there too.

Thankfully, she has lots of coffee and a good day planner! Ashley has lived as a teen mother, single mother, working mother and now full time homemaking mother. Each phase of motherhood has brought it's own challenges, and she is thankful for all she has learned through each one.

Marcia Duffy

Age: 30-something

Occupation: Marcia worked in the dental field/front office for 11.5 years before moving from the city to a stay at home country livin’ wife and mom just this last year.

She is especially compassionate towards older people, as she spent lots of time with her grandparents from early childhood until adulthood. She is passionate about cooking and rarely makes the same exact meal twice. She loves coffee of all kinds and has a dream of having her own coffee shop or food cart someday. She loves to express herself through writing and has several book ideas. In the meantime, she has decided to dabble in the blogging world and see how that goes.
