Samuel Lawson back in Douglas County courtroom to face murder charge

Samuel Lawson, who was once a convicted murderer but now stands only accused, appeared in a Douglas County courtroom Thursday more than seven years after being sentenced to life in prison for killing Noris Hilde. The short hearing on a defense motion was Lawson’s first time in court since the Oregon Supreme Court overturned his conviction. The court unanimously ruled that Douglas County sheriff’s detectives coaxed Hilde’s wife into identifying Lawson as the man who shot her and her husband Aug., 21, 2003, at Briggs Camp, about 60 miles east of Roseburg near Lemolo Lake.
