Nov. 11, 1940, saw a fierce storm sweep across northern Iowa and southern Minnesota. A young lad, glad to have a day off from school, spent the day digging a snow cave into one of the large banks of snow. That storm became known as the “Armistice Day Storm.” It was the young lad’s introduction to the term “Armistice Day,” which some years later became Veterans Day.
