I work with veterans. Thus I see many patients who suffer post-traumatic stress disorder, or what is more commonly referred to as PTSD. It has been estimated that 19 percent of all Vietnam veterans returned home with symptoms of PTSD and that 25 years later, 9 percent continued to suffer. A recent report by the Rand Corporation similarly concludes that 20 percent of the veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars have the signs and symptoms of PTSD.
