For hundreds of homeless and low-income Douglas County residents, getting ready for winter means lining up outside a Roseburg church before sunrise for coat and blankets. A line formed outside St. Joseph Catholic Church well before doors opened Friday for the annual Day of Sharing. “They started lining up at 3:30 in the morning. I got here at 9:15 and there were probably 300 people lined up outside,” said Penny McCue, president of the Douglas County Housing and Homeless Coalition.
