Douglas County commissioners last week extended for five years contracts with five ambulance companies to respond to medical emergencies throughout Douglas County. The extensions allow the providers — Douglas County Fire District No. 2, Winston-Dillard Fire District, Lower Umpqua Hospital EMS, North Douglas Fire & EMS and Glendale Ambulance District — to continue offering service without submitting new proposals to the county, the county’s Health Department director, Peggy Madison, told commissioners.
