The Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club is planning a Feb. 2 hike on the River View Trail east of Roseburg. Though the route is along the North Umpqua River, it is not part of the North Umpqua Trail. The trek will start just past Steamboat Inn on Highway 138, on what was the original road along the river. Organizers describe the hike as a moderate, six-mile shuttle, with views all along the way of the jade-green river.
