The 2013 Relay for Life will kick off with entertainment and a dessert auction at 6 p.m. Feb. 7 at Phoenix Charter School, 3131 N.E. Diamond Lake Blvd. The relay is held in July and preceded by several fundraisers. At last year’s relay, 1,215 people walked or ran on the Umpqua Community College track, collecting pledges for the American Cancer Society. Participants are encouraged to dress in super hero costumes for this and subsequent relay events. Funds raised go toward finding a cure for cancer.
