Sutherlin High School ag teacher wins two state honors

Sutherlin High School agriculture teacher Wes Crawford recently received two state awards.

The 30-year-old was selected as the 2013 Oregon winner of the Ideas Unlimited Award by the National Association of Agricultural Educators. He was also tabbed as the Outstanding Young Ag Teacher for those who have completed one to five years of teaching.

Crawford’s idea involved a method for teaching about livestock breeds. His teaching included the history and genetics of cattle, swine, sheep, horses and also dogs in the U.S.

For the outstanding award, Crawford was judged on his first five years of teaching. He completed his sixth year at Sutherlin High this year.

Crawford is a 2001 Sutherlin High graduate. He earned his master’s degree in ag education at Oregon State University in Corvallis in 2007.
