Roseburg police arrest fugitive at high school

A California man was arrested Wednesday morning at Roseburg High School after police said they found a stun gun, duct tape and a BB revolver in the man’s vehicle.

Roseburg police said they contacted Derek William Ames, 34, of Torrance, California, around 10:30 a.m. at the school.

Ames allegedly gave officers a false name to avoid arrest for warrants out of California, police said.

Police say they found a black backpack in Ames’ vehicle that also contained gloves and black clothing.

Ames was arrested on suspicion of second-degree trespass, identity theft, false information, felon in possession of a restricted weapon, unlawful possession of marijuana, failure to register as a sex offender and a warrant.

He was taken to Douglas County Jail, where he remained today in lieu of $65,000 bail.
