A Roseburg woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of using a relative’s identity to steal about $1,700, Roseburg police said.
Police suspect Carrie Michelle Peel, 40, forged numerous checks and deposit slips in the victim’s name.
Police also suspect Peel provided a forged check Wednesday to Jennifer Wallis, 35, of Roseburg, who tried to use the check at a business shortly before 10 a.m. in the 1100 block of West Harvard Avenue, police said.
Wallis was arrested on suspicion of third-degree theft and second-degree forgery.
Peel was arrested at about 11 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Beacon Street on suspicion of 11 counts of first-degree forgery, 13 counts of identity theft, first-degree theft, second-degree theft, third-degree theft, 11 counts of computer crime and two counts of second-degree forgery.
Both women were taken to the Douglas County Jail. Peel remained in custody today in lieu of $1.82 million bail and Wallis in lieu of $7,500 bail.
