Officers arrest Roseburg man following standoff

A 26-year-old Roseburg man suspected of holding a woman at gunpoint and firing shots at another man’s vehicle was arrested Monday evening following a standoff with Douglas County sheriff’s deputies and Roseburg police.

Emergency dispatchers alerted deputies and police to multiple reports shortly before 7 p.m. of a disturbance and gunshots heard in the area of Wide Avenue in Roseburg, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies and police responded to a residence in the 600 block of Wide Avenue and found two victims, a 31-year-old woman and 38-year-old man, unharmed.

The victims reported that Nicholas Ryan Clyde had prevented the woman from leaving the residence and fired multiple shots toward the other victim’s vehicle, deputies said.

Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and contacted Clyde over the phone.

Negotiators eventually convinced Clyde to surrender.

He was arrested on suspicion of two counts of menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of pointing a firearm at another and first-degree kidnapping.

Clyde was taken to the Douglas County Jail, where he remained today in lieu of $450,000 bail.
